Day 3: Lose 8lbs in 6 Days!

Day 3: Tuesday, March 5th, 2013
Weight: 133.8lbs – loss of 1.8lbs!

Wow, I feel noticeably weaker today. I actually got a half-decent sleep today (more than my usual 4 hours), although I think I was awake for most of the afternoon in bed, while I was trying to sleep. I was in bed for less than 7 hours, so not totally ideal, and I didn’t lose the 2lbs that I had predicted, but 1.8 is close enough! If I continue at this rate, I will reach my goal before Saturday’s deadline. (but I imagine I won’t be able to keep this up)

I had to get up earlier than originally planned as I made a (very quick) appointment with a massage therapist to work on my pulled shoulder muscle. He said it was strained and that I should refrain from the weight lifting for at least 2 days. Good idea, since it was really hurting yesterday, and I can’t imagine doing the same weight lifting routine today, as I normally would. I’m lacking in energy anyways, from the juice fasting, so I should probably lay off the weight lifting until after this weekend.

After the appointment, I had a meeting, and during that meeting, I started to get a headache – the typical “juice fast headache” that comes near the beginning of your fast, which is a sign of your body detoxing, so it’s to be expected. Of course, I should have expected this, but I wasn’t really thinking about it – or the fact that I would probably be really weak this week while only consuming liquids. In fact, I wasn’t really planning to go full on juice (smoothie) fast, but that is pretty much what it has turned out to be, just by default of the fact that I haven’t really been hungry!

I can feel that my stomach is very empty, physically, but I don’t feel that I need food, so keeping to the liquids has been fine. I made my green smoothie before the meeting (same concoction as yesterday) and took it with me. As of 7am, I still have a little bit left, and that is virtually all I’ve consumed today (plus a lot of water, as usual).

Anyways, around 8pm, at my meeting, I was really suffering from the headache, and thus not looking forward to having to go to work at midnight with such pain in my head, so I tried to call in sick, and get my shift covered for tonight. Because it was so late by the time I did this (8:24pm), I told my co-worker that if no one accepted the shift, that I would still go into work. As soon as I got home, around 9:30pm, she called me to let me know that she couldn’t get the shift filled, so I went to bed then to rest my head, and took a Tylenol, hoping it would go away. (and it did!) I’ve also taken 2 echinacea tablets today, as I can sense the very beginning subtle signs of my body wanting to get sick.

juicefasting book coverI had neglected to regard the advice of my juice fasting book (Steve Meyerowitz’s “Juice Fasting and Detoxification: Use the Healing Power of Fresh Juice to Feel Young and Look Great”), which instructs that one should really take it easy when embarking upon a fast – that is, he advises that you rest a lot, maybe go for a walk as daily exercise, and just not put much strain on the body in general. And here I am, working graveyards, and doing my daily cardio – not really conducive to maintaining a calorie-deprived body, but I’m okay with it so far.

As for the cardio, I did the elliptical for 60 minutes again tonight, and yes, did find my body to be working harder than even the previous night, even though I was doing the same low impact work out. I’m not sure how my work out is going to pan out for tomorrow, especially as I am working in the daytime tomorrow with an early day and actually “doing stuff”, so I imagine I’ll be winded by the time I have a chance to exercise, in the late afternoon.

For today’s weight loss, I’ll be happy with another 1.8lbs, though wouldn’t be surprised if it’s in the 2lb range, since I consumed less calories today than yesterday (no need for apple rings today! Although I did eat 1 cucumber slice, but I don’t think that’s even worth counting)

Today’s calorie intake:  Smoothie (301) + 1 cucumber slice (2) + Vega Pre-Workout Energizer drink (35) = 338 calories + 2 Echinacea tablets + B12 vitamin
